2017 Hong Kong Pride Parade
Date: Saturday, 25 November 2017
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Route: Victoria Park, Causeway Bay → Edinburgh Place, Central
Theme: ‘Turn the Wind, Shift the Position — Bid Discrimination Farewell’
Though most Hong Kong people support equal rights and legislation to protect sexual minorities from discrimination, the government turns a blind eye and remains stuck in place. Though Hong Kong takes pride in being an international city, it has not even held a basic consultation on a sexual orientation discrimination ordinance. Though the world’s calls for human rights grow louder, the Hong Kong government still makes life difficult for transgender people, has not implemented a gender recognition scheme for years, and insists that completing all gender-reassignment surgery be a precondition for changing gender.
This year, BMCC once again takes to the streets, calling on the Hong Kong government to face the issue and to swiftly enact laws and policies that protect sexual minorities’ equal rights. Turn the wind, shift the position — bid discrimination farewell.
