Hong Kong Blessed Minority Christian Fellowship, operating as Blessed Ministry Community Church (“BMCC”, “基恩之家”, “we”, “us”) — a Hong Kong charity recognised under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance — operates a unified communication inbox to receive and respond to messages from members and the public via Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and email. This policy explains how we handle the personal data you share with us through these channels.
What we collect. When you contact BMCC through Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, or email, we receive: the content of your messages and attachments; your name and profile picture as shown on the platform; your platform user ID; and the date and time of the communication. WhatsApp additionally provides your phone number; email provides your email address.
Why we collect it. We use this information solely to (a) respond to your enquiry, prayer request, or pastoral concern; (b) coordinate church events, volunteering, and ministry participation; and (c) maintain conversation continuity so any staff member responding to you has context. We do not use your data for advertising, marketing analytics, or political purposes.
Where it is stored. Messages are aggregated with data encrypted at rest at a self-hosted server. Only designated BMCC staff and volunteers with a pastoral or administrative need have access, governed by named user accounts and audit logs.
Sharing. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing. Data necessarily transits Meta (Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp) and your email provider per their own terms. We may disclose information if required by Hong Kong law or to prevent imminent harm to a person.
Retention. We do not set a fixed expiry on conversation records. Instead we review our holdings annually and delete data we no longer need for pastoral care continuity or legal compliance. You may at any time ask us to delete your records — see “Your rights” below.
Your rights. Under the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance you may ask us to: confirm what data we hold about you; provide a copy; correct inaccuracies; or delete your records. Email privacy [at] hkbmcc.org and we will respond within 40 calendar days.
