Worship in the Living, Not the Sanctified

‘I am not at my best today; I can’t worship at church.’
‘I have been low lately; I cannot worship.’
Why, when our feelings sink, do we refuse to worship? Worship has become severed from our life and our living — we may be sanctifying worship.
If we can be honest and gentle with ourselves, in a low moment we naturally need space — to release or to be still. When we are full of joy, of course we want to cry out and sing. But honestly: whether we are on a high mountain or in a valley, if we will humbly accept it and turn our hearts, in every moment the fire of the Spirit will be kindled in our depths — bright or dim, every moment is an invitation to begin again.
Reverence (敬) — to acknowledge before God exactly where we are.
Worship (拜) — to humbly and willingly accept ourselves in this very moment.
Worship is to be revealed in life at every moment:
• Submission is not surrender — we humble ourselves and face who we are.
• Reverence is not timidity — even at the foot of the wall, we trust that God is with us.
• The Lord has always been waiting to walk and work alongside us.
• Worship is not loud shouting and clapping every day. Do not sanctify worship of yourself.
Worship is, in fact, an attitude of life — grounded, connected to oneself.
No rush. To savour slowly is the truly living life.
