2017 Gender Recognition Public Consultation
The Hong Kong government has launched a public consultation on whether Hong Kong should establish a Gender Recognition Scheme, and what eligibility criteria and procedures applicants should be required to meet.
BMCC, faithful to the love and justice Jesus Christ practised in his incarnation on earth, will not be absent from this consultation. To help society and our brothers and sisters within the church better understand the content of the consultation, we have hosted and co-organised a series of talks during the consultation period — so that everyone may grasp the various perspectives and more actively submit opinions to the government. We also call on society at large to oppose making surgery a precondition for gender recognition, and to be salt and light in the world.
The Consultation Covers:
• Whether a Gender Recognition Scheme should be established in Hong Kong.
• Eligibility criteria for applicants (including medical requirements, residency duration, minimum age, marital status, and the duration of living in the reassigned, acquired, or preferred gender).
• Procedures for gender recognition (including evidentiary requirements, which authorities should decide applications, whether to recognise overseas decisions, etc.).
Submission Methods:
• By post: 5/F East Wing, Justice Place, 18 Lower Albert Road, Central
• By fax: 3918 4799
• By email: iwggr@doj.gov.hk
Consultation Period: 23/06/2017 – 31/12/2017
